LOGI: Make the warehouse smarter

LOGI is an in-house application designed for managing inventory in warehouses. This app simplifies managing inventory across five warehouses located in different locations by allowing users to switch between locations. It significantly eases the life of warehouse employers and managers by providing real-time updates on inventory levels.

What did I learn?

I learned streamlining the app features for people's work routines while reducing complexity.

Overview

Background

The company has five different warehouses with different locations. What made it complicated was that not only do locations matter, but the items are from four different sister companies. Before 2021, they were using the desktop system to manage everything. The system was complex to learn and time-consuming. To make it effective, they concluded that they needed a new solution for warehouse management.

Design Process

Initial Thinking

Target Users

-Employees of warehouses who wish to stay updated

-Manager who wants to know what is going on at once

Research Method

-Existing systems

-Qualitative research (in-person interviews)

Challenge

Problem Statement

More than 80% of warehouse employees are Spanish, and among managers, more than half are Korean American. Half of them are not used to using mobile applications. How can we fill the gap between culture and age?

Insights

01 Previous users already have a conceptual solid model in their mind

Users were stuck to the old version of the desktop system since they had already adjusted to the way.

The only way to break it is to make the workflow natural - so they can think everything makes sense.

02 Color is a language

Using consistent colors for similar meanings or intentions helps guide users.

03 Be in the user’s shoes

They are constantly moving while using the app, and the app has to have accurate real-time updates without errors.

The lock function can prevent the accident while working.

Get a personalized workstation.

LOGI only works on internal networks. Click the Connect Test button to test whether it works in an internal network.

You can change the location and language in the home.

The ‘Favorite’ menu appears when you swipe from left to right. The bottom option allows you to choose a warehouse and a language. You can add or remove the menu from your favorite if you click the heart. You can use the favorite tab to edit the favorite menu or sort or remove the menu from your favorite.

Don’t need to bring scanners.

You can choose scan type Bluetooth, Camera, or Text Recognition. In Bluetooth mode, the virtual keyboard cannot be displayed, and autofocus can also be set up in the input. In Camera mode, you can scan the barcode. If more than one barcode is read, you can select one. In Text Recognition mode, you can read the text and choose one of them in the submenu list. Also, you can use options Flash Enable, Scan Vibration, and Scan Beep Sound when you read the barcode.

Make the collaboration easier.

You can see the login user list and choose one of them. Then, you can send a message to the user or group you selected. When you receive a message, you can see the popup message. You can reply directly in the popup. You can also see message history in View Message.

Don’t bother while doing other things.

If you press and hold the lock button for more than 1 second, you cannot do anything when the screen is locked. and then if you press and hold the lock button for more than 1 second,
it goes back to normal.

See the list and the status at a glance

If you see an ellipsis icon in the list, you can click it to see the submenu. You should click the icon or press and hold the list item for over a second.

Make the better work flow.

Inbound: You can do ‘Bulk Receiving,’ ‘Multi-select receipts,’ and use a search filter.

Outbound: If you see an ellipsis icon in the list, click it to see the submenu. You should click the icon or press and hold the list item for over a second.

Putaway: You can change zones and preview the orders

Review and manage the work

You can manage all the work at the check menu. The items are easy to remove and also show the quantity, location, and status at once.

Takeaways

Knowledge of WMS (warehouse management system) was required, and setting the informational hierarchy was challenging while doing this project using the agile method.

If I had more time, I would consider how to receive and deliver information or ideas effectively in a complex context.
